What is a Synth?

Sustain: The Sustain is basically the volume level.
Release: The release is how long the note lasts when you release the key.
In a nutshell, a synthesiser creates sounds electronically by changing the voltage. The signal can pass through filters and amp and can be manipulated by the ADSR envelope along the way. This changes the sound before heading out to an amplifier or PA system. Simple right?
