Fender Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang - Fiesta Red - Made in Japan - Secondhand

Kurt Cobain of Nirvana created the Fender Jag-Stang in collaboration with Fender, and it was released in 1996. The original two were built by former Custom Shop Master Builder Larry L. Brooks, and only one of them was played by Cobain himself. This particular Jag-Stang is a December 1996 model.

The Fender Jag-Stang was a Frankenstein electric, combining two legendary Fender guitars—the Jaguar and Mustang. It features a bridge humbucker and a vintage-style single-coil Jaguar® neck pickup, delivering a sharp, bell-like clean tone and overly distorted, grungy overdrive tones, distinctive of Kurt's sound. 

Its shorter 24-inch scale makes it easy to play, while the maple neck and rosewood fingerboard make it easy to chord and fret. The body is comfortable, and the striking Fiesta Red finish makes it stand out whether it's used in the studio, at home, or where it really belongs: on stage.

This particular model is in good condition for a 30-year-old instrument!

Resonant Basswood Body

The Fender Jag-Stang features a lightweight basswood body with a gloss polyester finish, giving it a comfortable feel while retaining the distinctive hybrid shape inspired by the Jaguar and Mustang. Finished in Fiesta Red, it also has lots of visual appeal, with the four-ply white pearloid pickguard adding to its unmistakable look.

Easy Play Neck

With its short 24-inch scale length, the Jag-Stang has a compact feel that makes it comfortable to play, particularly for players who prefer a shorter reach between frets. The maple neck pairs with a rosewood fingerboard, a vintage-style 7.25-inch radius, and 22 frets, giving it a familiar Fender-style playing experience.

Unique Pickup Configuration

The Jag-Stang uses an HS pickup configuration, pairing a standard humbucker at the bridge with a vintage-style Jaguar single-coil at the neck. This unusual combination gives the guitar plenty of tonal variety, from sharper single-coil sounds to thicker, more powerful tones from the bridge humbucker.

Solid Hardware

The Jag-Stang features a six-saddle vintage-style adjustable bridge and a floating Jaguar tremolo tailpiece, letting players add vibrato to their playing. Chrome-finished hardware, vintage-style tuning machines and a synthetic bone nut complete the setup, while two three-position slide switches control the pickup on/off and in/out-of-phase functions.
